SCHUNK’s new Robot PLUS portfolio delivers a range of versatile solutions for adaptable robotic automation. It features tool changers, compensation units, and 6-axis force/torque sensors, all designed to be combined in multiple configurations with grippers from SCHUNK’s extensive product range. This allows SCHUNK to offer efficient and flexible end-of-arm systems all from one provider.

Flexibility is essential in today’s automation landscape – and SCHUNK delivers the right solutions. The technology leader is broadening its future-ready end-of-arm portfolio for robotic applications developed in Germany by SCHUNK. This offering covers the interface between the robot flange and the end effectors, allowing for easy customization to meet specific needs. With this, the company continues to shape the future while drawing on its decades of expertise in automation technology.

Tool changers: mastering component variety with efficiency

Tool changers enable robots to carry out diverse handling or machining operations with flexibility and without the need for extra setup time. They facilitate quick and seamless exchanges of grippers, tools, and other end effectors, significantly reducing downtime. The Robot PLUS portfolio currently offers three different products in this segment.

For industrial use, the CPS and CPB tool changers are particularly well-suited. They enable fully automatic end effector changes using pneumatic actuation and support a variety of media transfers through a broad selection of signal, pneumatic, fluid, and communication modules.

The CPS tool changer serves as a versatile all-rounder, connecting the change master (CPS-K) and adapter (CPS-A) with a form-fit, process-secure ball-seated locking mechanism. This design enables quick and reliable exchanges of grippers and other tools for handling weights of up to 1,000 kg. With all functional components made from hardened steel, the CPS is built to withstand demanding industrial conditions. The series includes 18 sizes, ensuring a suitable changer for any robot. Additionally, users can replace existing SCHUNK changers without the need for re-teaching, as the CPS maintains full compatibility.

The CPB tool changer enables efficient tool changes with a focus on maximum flexibility and process reliability. Its standout feature is a robust locking mechanism using pins. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in stationary workholding, SCHUNK has transferred this well-established system from the machine table to robotic applications. The form-fit, self-retaining pin mechanism, made from vacuum-hardened stainless steel, delivers high stability and long-lasting performance. An integrated ISO interface supports quick installation and minimizes commissioning effort.

The CMS manual change system serves as a practical solution for various applications in manufacturing, handling, or assembly environments. Compact and easy to use, it allows for quick changes at the robot’s end-effector. Featuring trusted push-lever technology, the CMS locks and unlocks effortlessly without requiring any additional tools. Designed to handle payloads up to 58 kg, the system also includes integrated monitoring sensors to ensure both operational safety and process reliability. With an ISO flange pattern, the CMS fits seamlessly on any standard robot without the need for an adapter plate.

Modular Compensation Unit with High Payload Capacity

The AGM compensation unit provides effective tolerance compensation in automated robotic processes. This prevents issues such as jamming during machine tool loading/unloading, misalignments in joining applications, or sticking during bin picking. With 23 modular sizes, the AGM series eliminates the need to compromise on interfering contours. Thanks to its wide variety of configurations, users can find a suitable unit for virtually any application.

In terms of compensation performance, the AGM stands out by accommodating movement in all directions (XY, Z, W) and their combinations (XYZ, WZ). Its notable strength lies in its high payload range—supporting loads from just a few grams up to over 400 kg. The patented spring and air cartridges ensure reliable weight compensation, even in horizontal or inclined orientations, while the durable guides contribute to a long service life.

6-Axis Force/Torque Sensors: Because Precision Matters

Whether it’s quality control—such as in battery production for e-mobility—process monitoring, or tasks like grinding and assembly, the FTS 6-axis force/torque sensor measures process forces and moments with high precision and resolution. This allows for accurate evaluation of all acting forces, ensuring consistently high production quality and exacting results. Designed with IP67 protection, the FTS is available in nine sizes and provides reliable performance even in demanding environments. An interface box supporting EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and PROFINET makes integration into existing systems straightforward.

With the Robot PLUS portfolio, SCHUNK offers a wide range of options for adaptable robotic automation. Backed by decades of experience in crafting specialized, well-engineered automation components, SCHUNK is synonymous with outstanding productivity, flexibility, and resource efficiency.
