For international OEMs, India offers a balanced proposition of quality, scale, cost efficiency, and long‑term reliability,” says Pramod Rajpurohit, MD, Purohit Steel India Ltd. This interview was taken for DMI 2026.

India’s Global Role
India’s Die & Mould industry is rapidly strengthening its role in the global manufacturing ecosystem, supported by sustained economic growth, expanding domestic consumption, and international supply‑chain diversification strategies such as China+1

Growing Demand Drivers
Demand for dies and moulds from India continues to rise across automotive, electric vehicles (EVs), aerospace, medical devices, defence, and consumer goods industries that require high dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and long tool life.

Make in India Momentum
National initiatives such as Make in India, combined with global sourcing realignments under China+1, are accelerating investments into Indian manufacturing. For international OEMs, India offers a balanced proposition of quality, scale, cost efficiency, and long‑term reliability.

Technology & Tooling Advancements
The Indian Die & Mould industry is increasingly adopting high‑speed machining, automation, and simulation‑driven design to reduce lead times and improve accuracy. At the same time, new‑generation tool steels, including ESR and pre‑hardened grades, are helping manufacturers achieve higher productivity, improved machinability, and longer tool life.

DMI 2026 Significance
DMI 2026 will bring together toolmakers, OEMs, and suppliers from across regions, highlighting India’s advancements in tooling technology, precision manufacturing, and material innovation. DMI 2026 will offer global customers a clear view of India’s growing capabilities in advanced tooling and tool steels. It reinforces India’s position not merely as an alternate source, but as a strategic, long‑term manufacturing partner.

Products at DMI Showcase
Purohit Steel India Ltd will showcase a focused range of advanced tool steels for injection moulding, stamping, forming, extrusion, and forging applications, including Injection Mould Steels, Hot Work & HeavyDuty Applications, and Cold Work Applications. In injection moulding, grades such as SmatV are ideal for noncorrosive, critical injection mould applications, offering stable performance and reliability. VR300HH is an improved 1.2738type grade that delivers enhanced hardness, superior machinability, and reduced tool wear for highproductivity operations. For hot work and heavyduty uses, Durah61 provides excellent wear resistance, suited to extrusion and forging industries. In cold work applications, Dumac11 is designed for excellent tool life in stamping and forming, supporting consistent output in highcycle production environments.
