The facility, spread over 4,400 square meters, will initially focus on assembling bending machines, with production of 35 machines planned for the current year and expansion to 200 machines over the next three years.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by an esteemed lineup of industry leaders, including Stephan Mayer, CEO Machine Tools and Member of the Management Board, TRUMPF Germany; Till Kueppers, COO Machine Tools, TRUMPF Germany; Mohini Kelkar, Vice President, IMTMA; Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India; Vaishnav Jayachandran, CEO, Kentex Engineering Works; Vijay Suttatti, Managing Director, Suttatti Enterprises Pvt Ltd.; Kalpesh Saraf, Regional Director, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce; Swamy Magod, Managing Director, Magod Group of Companies; Atin Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Auto Mech (India) Pvt. In line with local traditions, Pradeep Patil, Managing Director, TRUMPF India, and Mohammed Hidayath, Executive Director, TRUMPF India, welcomed guests with the symbolic Puneri Pagdi, celebrating regional heritage and hospitality.

A Strategic Milestone for India and Beyond

The Chakan facility will play a pivotal role in TRUMPF’s localisation and export strategy. “Our plan is to reach 200 machines in the next three years from this facility, with future plans to export to South Asian countries and beyond,” said Sachin Gambhire, Director, TRUMPF. “We will soon begin assembling laser and punching machines as well, making this a key strategic hub in our global manufacturing network.”

Gambhire also highlighted that this facility is just the beginning. “We envision shifting to a facility five times larger in the next five years, supported by a strong local supply chain. The idea is not just to assemble in India but to co-create value with Indian manufacturers for our global ecosystem.”

Growing Local, Thinking Global

TRUMPF’s commitment to the Indian market is underpinned by its growing footprint: two experience centres (Pune and Bangalore), four warehouses, 23-member service support team, and 15,000+ annual shipments to 700 customers across India.

Speaking at the event, Stephan Mayer emphasized India’s strategic importance: “India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, and we want to be part of that growth. With this facility, we aim to serve customers locally, build knowledge, and systematically grow a local supply chain for critical components.”

Maharashtra: A Logical Choice

Commenting on the location choice, Pradeep Patil said, “Over 45% of our Indian business comes from Maharashtra. Pune has the right mix of skilled talent, supply chain ecosystem, and proximity to ports – making it ideal for both local manufacturing and exports.”

He also revealed that the new facility has a production capacity of 300 machines per year, with assembly lines planned for vending machines and soon for laser cutting machines—used widely in automotive, switchgear, and other sheet metal processing sectors.

Sustainability at the Core

Highlighting the sustainable aspects of sheet metal, Patil noted, “Unlike plastics, sheet metal is a highly sustainable material, with 85% of global sheet metal reused over time. As industries move toward greener solutions, we see growing demand across segments, and TRUMPF is committed to enabling that transition.”
