Walter AG expands its Groov·tec®GD portfolio with three new grooving systems

Highly stable and with high process reliability: The double-tooth design of the Groov·tec™ GD grooving systems effectively prevents the cutting insert from being pushed out of the insert seat laterally.

Walter AG has expanded its Groov·tec®GD portfolio with three new product innovations. The G5111-P axial grooving system is now available in three cutting depths—T21, T25, and T33 mm—and four insert widths ranging from 3.0 to 6.0 mm. The system is designed to deliver stable machining conditions and high process reliability, supported by precise internal coolant supply on the free and plain surfaces, which helps improve chip evacuation in axial contours.

Additionally, the new Groov·tec®GD boring bar range G5221 is designed for large diameters starting from a minimum diameter of 44 mm. It supports insert widths from 3 to 5 mm and offers a cantilever length of up to 3×D. The range is suitable for internal grooving from the minimum diameter as well as grooving depths up to a maximum of 12 mm. Its reinforced tool body and optimized design help minimize vibrations, while the enlarged internal cooling bore enhances flushing of the working area, improving chip control and tool life.

With the Groov·tec®GD grooving system range G55xx, Walter is expanding its portfolio with another highly universal solution: Insert widths ranging from 2.5 to 6.0 mm enable radial grooving and groove turning up to a depth of 8 mm—as well as axial and 45° applications. Thanks to the reduced base provided by the   , all GD cutting inserts can be used in the toolholder. This increases flexibility, reduces set-up times, and boosts cost-effectiveness on all types of lathes, from single-piece to series production. Together, the three systems share the fundamental advantages of Groov·tec®GD, foremost among them the dual-tooth profile, which remains unique in the market. It guarantees maximum stability by reliably preventing the Cutting insert from being pushed out laterally. In combination with the wear-resistant Walter Tiger·tec®Gold grades, Groov·tec®GD thus enables maximum cutting parameters, tool life, and process reliability.
