Jergens Launches Zero Point System for Quick-Change Workholding

Jergens has introduced its new Zero Point System (ZPS) — a high-performance, two-part quick-change workholding solution designed to significantly reduce setup times and enhance machining efficiency. The system uses a combination of pull studs and clamping modules that integrate seamlessly with vises, fixtures, or directly mounted workpieces to improve accessibility during machining operations.

The ZPS operates through tapered pull studs that connect with hydraulically or pneumatically actuated clamping modules. In a single step, the system fixes, positions, and clamps workpieces, cutting setup time by up to 90%. Built for long-term reliability, each ZPS module is constructed from AISI 440B hardened stainless steel, capable of withstanding thousands of connection cycles. Its self-guiding tapered design ensures high precision and ease of placement, even with heavy or complex parts.

A positive locking mechanism within the module provides secure holding force without continuous pressure. Unlike conventional lever or wedge systems, the ZPS employs large-diameter locking balls that distribute loads evenly, minimize wear, and extend service life. For added safety, the system can also be opened manually in the rare case of a jam. With the new Zero Point System, Jergens offers manufacturers a robust, precise, and time-saving solution to achieve higher productivity and process reliability on the shop floor.

The Impact on Operations and Output

ZPS gives your machining center a new level of flexibility. It enables fast, repeatable loading and unloading of vises, pallets, and subplates—allowing shops to streamline workflows without compromising precision.

Key benefits include:

  • Faster setup and changeover times
  • Consistent, repeatable performance (±0.0002″ repeatability)
  • Reduced operator stress and human error
  • Increased throughput and available capacity

The result? More uptime and less wasted motion—ideal for robotic machining cells, five-axis work, high-mix/low-volume production, CMM inspections, and EDM operations.

Multiply the Capability

After implementing the ZPS, manufacturers can further enhance flexibility and productivity by expanding their setup. A four-station ZPS subplate, for instance, can be mounted on the machine table using a locating pin, sine fixture key, and T-nuts within minutes. Once installed, a fixture plate with mounted vises can be positioned and secured in seconds.

The same subplate design allows for multiple configuration options—such as two double-station fixtures, a combination of vises and direct-mounted workpieces, or other arrangements based on production requirements. This adaptability enables efficient changeovers and optimized use of machine capacity.

With its modular design, consistent setup accuracy, and scalable configuration options, Jergens’ Zero Point System is designed to improve operational efficiency and overall productivity in machining environments.
