Kennametal Inc. introduced today its new ST Line Modular Drilling System, an extensive portfolio of dedicated tools for challenging beam drilling for the construction industry. The new product line was developed to address common construction machining issues such as reliability, stability and noise control.

“Understanding the challenges and needs of industry-specific machinists plays a major role in Kennametal’s ever-evolving tools and with our new ST Line Modular Drilling System we’re able to deliver best-in-class performance when drilling structural steel. The stability and versatility of our new KSEM™ drills and hydraulic chucks create a perfect fit for beam and plate drilling,” said Scott Etling, Vice President of Global Product Management.

Some features and benefits include:

  • Hydraulic clamping for less vibrations, delivering better tool life and hole quality
  • Straight shank with flange and threaded pin for extraordinary rigidity and stiffness, delivering longer tool life and boosted performance
  • KSEM Modular Drilling System for strong insert clamping, delivering enhanced durability and reliability
  • MQL optimized coolant channels for improved cooling and lubrication

The new modular drilling system is designed specifically for structural steel and construction operations and is compatible with Kennametal’s existing and proven KSEM inserts.

Kennametal also launched new 4-edged PSTS inserts that further enhance the company’s true, full-solution tangential milling platform Mill 4-12KT. The new inserts feature a PU Geometry that delivers the lowest cost per cutting edge and increased metal removal rates.

“We are proud to expand our portfolio with the new PSTS inserts to cover even more applications for automotive, energy and general engineering customers seeking the lowest cost per cutting edge,” said Etling.

The new inserts feature:

  • Precision pressed PU Geometry for the lowest cost per cutting edge
  • Strong cutting edges for higher productivity and increased MRRs
