The 33rd edition of BIEMH (International Machine Tool Exhibition) has officially opened today, March 2, 2026, at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Spain, marking the start of one of Europe’s leading events for advanced manufacturing.

Held from March 2 to 6, the International Machine Tool Biennial kicks off the global trade fair calendar for the advanced manufacturing sector. This year’s edition brings together 1,503 exhibiting companies from 34 countries, showcasing more than 3,350 innovative products across six pavilions. With 33 editions and over six decades of history, BIEMH continues to strengthen its position as a key international meeting point for industry leaders seeking cutting-edge technologies, integrated solutions, and new business opportunities.

The exhibition presents a comprehensive sector-based showcase covering machine tools, tools and accessories, welding, metrology, components, deformation machinery, sheet metal and tube cutting, and surface treatment solutions. Live machinery demonstrations and technology in operation underline the event’s dynamic character, while automation, robotics, and digitalisation feature prominently, reflecting the shift toward more efficient, flexible, and interconnected production models.

Alongside the exhibition, BIEMH 2026 is hosting an extensive programme of conferences and networking sessions focused on analysing industry trends, sharing expertise, and fostering strategic collaboration.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for today at 12:00 noon and will be presided over by Imanol Pradales, Lehendakari of the Basque Government.

Large Machinery in Operation and Strong International Participation Mark BIEMH 2026

One of the defining features of this year’s exhibition is the spectacular display of fully operational, large-format machines running live at exhibitor stands — a hallmark that has long been part of BIEMH’s identity. To further strengthen this distinctive value, the organisers introduced a dedicated support programme encouraging companies to showcase heavy machinery in operation, offering visitors a real-time view of industrial technology in action.

International participation is another major highlight. Exhibitors, associations and professional visitors from nearly 70 countries are taking part in the event, reflecting extensive global outreach efforts in key markets. Countries represented across the exhibition area include Germany, Italy, France, China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, India, and several others, presenting advanced solutions to address evolving industrial challenges.

A new International Associations’ Area has also been introduced, featuring 11 global machine tool organisations showcasing national initiatives and sector developments. On the demand side, BIEMH’s expanded international visitor campaign has attracted decision-makers from India, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and across Europe, many participating in the Hosted Buyers’ Programme designed to facilitate high-level business meetings.

At the national level, 73 associations are supporting the event, bringing together purchasing companies from key sectors such as aerospace, automotive, defence, energy, rail, naval, oil & gas, electronics, and industrial subcontracting. The exhibition is welcoming managers, directors, and department heads actively seeking new technologies and strategic partnerships.

Activities, Innovation and Networking at the Forefront

Beyond the exhibition floor, BIEMH 2026 is hosting a dynamic programme of networking and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Innovation Workshops are currently underway, where exhibiting companies in robotics, automation and digitalisation present the technologies on display, offering in-depth technical insights into their industrial applications.

The Innovation Awards by BIEMH, organised by AFM and BEC, are recognising standout proposals across six categories, including machine tools, additive manufacturing, digitalisation and automation, and innovative start-ups.

Professional engagement is further strengthened through activities led by the Professional Women’s Network (PWN), featuring conferences and roundtable discussions aimed at promoting diversity and advancing cultural transformation within the industrial sector.

Social and networking highlights include exhibitor and buyer receptions, as well as BIEMH Fest taking place on March 4 at Azkuna Zentroa – Alhóndiga Bilbao. Throughout the fair, the CARPE BIEMH Area in Hall 4 serves as a relaxed networking zone designed to foster informal business interactions.

BIEMH 2026 is organised by AFM, AIMHE and the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, with institutional support from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and SPRI – Basque Government.

WORKinn Talent Hub Highlights Industrial Career Opportunities

Running alongside the exhibition, WORKinn Talent Hub is positioning talent development at the centre of advanced manufacturing. The dedicated forum brings together more than 30 companies and institutions offering over 350 job opportunities, providing a structured platform for recruitment and career exploration.

The Employment Forum, taking place on March 4 and 5, enables participating organisations to present their projects and recruitment needs. Meanwhile, the Inspire Zone offers interactive experiences showcasing skills in design, programming, manufacturing and precision engineering. A complementary Food & Art space explores creative intersections between gastronomy, art and industry, encouraging fresh perspectives on industrial careers.

WORKinn Talent Hub is organised by AFM Cluster for Advanced Manufacturing and Bilbao Exhibition Centre, in collaboration with regional employment and economic development institutions, reinforcing BIEMH’s role not only as a technology showcase but also as a catalyst for talent and industry growth.
